These shawls may be made out of Australian Merino Wool or Local Sheep Wool. AUSTRALIAN MERINO WOOL Wool imported from Australia is cleaned, carded and spun at various mills in the country. The soft, fine and warm fiber is dyed in varied colors and is hand woven. They may range from plain shawls to simple designs to the complex Kinnauri designs. Over 4000 designs are available to choose from. LOCAL WOOL This wool is acquired from sheep bred locally. These sheep are sheared twice a year during the autumn and spring seasons. This wool is obtainable in natural white, black, grey and brown shades. This wool is coarser than Merino wool and is mostly used for making various types of shawls. In these shawls the warp is mostly machine made Merino wool and the weft is hand spun local sheep wool. The designs most commonly preferred on these shawls are the old traditional designs.
